UNDER PINES

Architectural project

Project description

A house that makes one thing clear at first glance: the rhythm of the city stays outside the gates. A couple and their adult son wanted a lifestyle that would contrast as much as possible with urban living: a true countryside experience surrounded by a pine forest and varied terrain, with a wood-fired sauna, a fireplace, and the atmosphere of a traditional country house reinterpreted in a contemporary way.

The architecture draws inspiration from American and English country houses. Thermally modified ash, clinker brick, and rough rubble stone give the house a tactile, slightly brutal character, while the garage volume deliberately contrasts with the main house in both form and material.

The site itself also dictated its own rules. All existing pine trees were preserved, and the building footprint was carefully positioned to retain as much of the forest as possible while creating more open space behind the house. The result is a place built around a simple way of life: a wood-fired sauna, a fireplace, a master bedroom, the forest outside the windows, and no need to pretend what country living should feel like.
